Minimising
waste and impact

From conception to manufacture, the process of design should be considered, ensuring as little waste as possible. The A Range series is cut from sheets of plywood and every consideration is taken to minimise waste from each sheet. ByALEX approaches all design projects with the same goal in mind, aiming to create environmentally friendly products that can be used for years to come.

Minimising Impact
Wood has been found to be one of the most favourable materials for minimising the impact on the environment.

Layered Strength
Plywood is made from various layers of birch that have been plied together with the grain running crosswise. This means that the material is strong and resilient, as Alvator Alto said about his famous 'Armchair 41'.

Responsibility
We only source it from accredited forests, meaning that the forests themselves are responsibility managed.

Durable
The laminate layer protects the wood from water damage, making it more durable and long-lasting.

See the Australian Government's 2003 "Review of the Environmental Impact of Wood Compared with Alternative Products used in the Production of Furniture".

‘There's this very vulnerable planet of ours with finite resources. Architects and designers have, I think, a fair responsibility for conserving energy and materials, and making things durable.’
